Week 1 - SJMade Maker Residency:
We've been invited to do 6 SJMade Maker Residencies at Whole Foods Market (The Alameda) 4 hours every Saturday till May 7th. Instead of having the entire team there and being too crowded we decided to have 3 teams of 2 and rotate each week. First up Linn and Stephanie.
The morning started at 6:30 am. Our roastery is based in San Jose where the majority of our team live but the two of us live about 2 hours away. We got to the roastery around 8:30 am and had lots to do in preparation for the first day at the market. We had to grind coffee for our samples, package, brew coffee for tasting samples, gather everything we need, pack it up and get to our table by 11 am. Sounds like we had lots of time but we arrived at Whole Foods just in time to set up our booth and begin selling. The instant our table was set up we made our first sell of the day! We thought the 4 hours would be busy but unfortunately we were wrong. Although the crowds weren't out in mass that Saturday we used the opportunity to meet some vendors we've never met before like Poppie Shop in addition to seeing familiar faces like Back Porch Bakery, the Hella Hot Hot Sauce team, Franci Cakes, Racaroons and a few others.
Since we are an online coffee roasting company it's nice to get out of the roastery and meet people in person. It’s great talking to coffee enthusiast about the coffee they like and their preferred brewing methods. Saturday we met several people who had questions regarding sourcing, roasting coffee, how best to store coffee and brewing techniques. We had a good time answering their questions and talking about some of the regions our coffee comes from.
We love that people are so interested in and supportive of local businesses. We look forward to the following few Saturday's at SJMade so we can meet even more of you! Our first public cupping will be in May at our roastery. For details sign up here to join our mailing list. Enjoy your Weekend!
We have many passions in addition to our love of coffee. We’d like to share what we do over the weekend with you. Please grab a cup of our coffee and learn about our adventures.
