The day started out just like most days except this day was my birthday and I had no plans at all other than sleeping in LATE, getting up and having my favorite coffee, Weekend Coffee Roasters Guatemalan medium roast (shameless plug), a BLT and chill... ![]() However, my morning was not going the way I had envisioned. By 9 a.m. I received about 10 calls and countless text all wishing me a Happy Birthday and telling me to do something fun for my special day. I groaned a little only because I had nothing planned after breakfast AND every time I would start dozing off my phone would alert me to another birthday text. Oh well... 9'oclock isn't so bad, it’s kind of like sleeping in except it’s NOT! I decided I might as well give in and get this day started. By 9:45 I was showered and dressed but now I felt obligated to do something different, maybe I should switch it up a bit. So I made up my mind, after I finished running my errands I would treat myself to one of my favorite desserts, warm chocolate cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream (it's more like a rich hot molten lava cake served with a side of raspberry sauce and ice cream YUMMM!). It started out just as I hoped, I finished my errands by 11:30. Time for my warm chocolate cake... Not so fast! I get a call from a friend who I haven't talked to in quite a while, let's call him John. John and I decide to meet for lunch which turned into three hours of laughing and catching up. We then decided to go to Pinole and see another friend, play some pool and see where the day takes us. So we met our other friend at a spot called Antlers (off of Pinole Valley Road) which turned into another 3 hours of fun until our friend had to leave. I thought the day was winding down until he invited me to go with him to see a friend of his, Leo a guitar player play live at a very cool bar called The Branch Line in Emeryville (off of Hollis and 59th, next time you’re in the area check it out and have their “El Roy” it’s amazing). We met a few more friends and had a really good time. My day finally ended somewhere around 11:50 p.m. which is cool since by the stroke of midnight it would no longer be my birthday. Sometimes unexpected adventures are the way to go, I ended up having a much better time than I had planned. Thanks to some good music, good food, good drinks and mostly great friends! Happy Birthday to my twin brother Brandon I hope you had a good time as well! Until next year...
