Community: It’s all about giving back
Giving back is in our DNA. Yes, literally in our DNA…!
Marlow Brothers Park in Tracy, California is named after the four Marlow brothers (our father and his three brothers) who attended a local high school in the 1940s and were known for their athletic prowess. The brothers received an outpouring of support during their high school years (there were seven kids in a family with limited financial resources). After graduation the brothers wanted to repay the kindness and generosity they’d received. Throughout their lives they gave back to the community in meaningful ways: via tutoring (sports and educational), supporting school fundraising activities and being actively involved in community events.
In February 2003, Tracy City Councilwoman Evelyn Tolbert commented on the park dedication, “Parks are named after people who have made contributions to the community.” Check out the news story: Marlow brothers’ contributions to city sports honored.
Being raised by families who give back to their communities – as the saying goes “the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree” – is a valued and deeply rooted part of who we are. The Weekend Coffee team decided to incorporate this giving tradition into our family business. We’ve identified several causes we care about which we actively support as our expression of nurturing community.
